A 53-year-old man named Taiye Adelabu was given a year in a detention facility for stealing a motorcycle in the state of Ondo by an Akure Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant received a punishment from Magistrate Tope Aladejana without the chance of a fine.
The prosecution has, the court ruled, proven the accusation against him beyond a reasonable doubt.
The defendant committed the offenses on July 12, 2023, at around 11.40 am in Owe-Akala street, Oke- Aro, Akure, according to prior testimony from the prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliamon.
He claimed Adelabu took a brand-new, unregistered red motorcycle worth N550,000 that belonged to John Chinedu and had the numbers TA40/3181493 on the engine and BLOJA4090PN on the chassis.
He said Adelabu stole one new unregistered red motorcycle with engine number: TA40/3181493 and chasis number BLOJA4090PN, valued at N550,000, belonging to one John Chinedu.
According to the prosecutor, the convict went to the complainant’s shop to steal the motorcycle at the point of sale, when the actual buyer was about paying for it.
Suliamon said that the offences contravened Sections 319(9)of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State 2006
Adelabu who begged the court for leniency, admitted to committing the offences. He claimed to be under a spell.
Adelabu, who pleaded with the court for mercy, acknowledged committed the crimes. He asserted that he was possessed.
